Student Advocacy for Appeals

The ACCSA provides advocacy services for all ACC students including students at other sites throughout the province. An advocate will be assigned to assist a student through either the academic or disciplinary appeals process in the college of filing a formal complaint when requested by that student.

If you ever encounter a situation where you feel you have received unfair or unjust treatment from the college you are entitled to pursue your situation through the appeal or complaint process. It is not the mandate of the Assiniboine Community College Students' Association to make judgment on your case but to provide the assistance one might need to be given a fair and appropriate opportunity to be heard.

Although we hope that you will never find yourself in a situation where you are require the assistance of an advocate, we encourage you to take advantage of this service if you do.

Student Run Events

The Assiniboine Community College Students' Association produces many student run events for its students to partake in. The Social, Activities and Cultural Coordinators, in conjunction with the Student Life Coordinator, are responsible for planning, organizing and hosting activities like beer bashes, socials, family fun parties, and cultural days. Watch your e-mail inbox, the Student Focus newsletter, and hallway bulletin boards for more information on events that will take place throughout the year. Also stay tuned for information on when you can register for our biggest event of the year...
Sun Of A Beach

We try to offer something for everyone. If you're interested in becoming a volunteer for one of our many event, stop by the Students' Association office to see how you can become involved. It's a great way to meet new people, enhance your resumé and have some fun!

Accident Insurance

The Students' Associations provides accident insurance coverage to any Assiniboine Community College student that pays Students' Associations fees. Students are covered while they are on the school premises and while attending or participating in any school activity approved and supervised by the proper authority of the school of the ACCSA. If a student has an accident, it is his/her responsibility to file a claim immediately with the Students' Association Office.

Note: It is the responsibility of each student to provide his/her own personal basic medical insurance (i.e. Manitoba Medical, Blue Cross, etc.)

Fitness Room

Students and staff are encouraged to use the Fitness Room, which is located in the gym across from the women's washroom. The room is a fully equipped weight room with free weights, a universal gym, treadmills, elliptical trainers and a recumbent bicycle. You can't go wrong when it's FREE!

Fitness Room orientations are available by stopping by the SA office (Room 413) to make an appointment. So save your money from expensive gym memberships and take advantage of this privilege that is included in your student fees.

Intramurals

The ultimate aim of the Intramural Sports Program is to create a positive attitude towards lifelong physical activity.
We believe that getting involved will enrich your college experience, and will of course be fun!

All full time and part time ACC students are eligible to participate in the ACC intramurals. Faculty and staff may participate as well. Within one particular sport, a player may only play for one team at a time.

The intramural program stresses that there is something for everyone - a reflection of our commitment to a quality program that everyone can participate in and enjoy. Participation is the key – it’s fun and rewarding!

ACCSA Student Food Bank

The students’ Association has a vital service for its members to use in times of great need. The ACCSA Student Food Bank is available to college students who may need some help when the groceries in the cupboard get low.

To receive a food hamper, students fill out a request form or stop by the SA office.
Remember, there should never be a starving student!

Publications

The Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association produces the STUDENT FOCUS, a free monthly newsletter for all ACC students. The newsletter is distributed in hard copy to popular mingling areas around the college and on our main bulletin boards. It is also distributed via email to all ACC students and staff throughout the province. We are always looking for a few good stories so if you’d like to become a writer for the Student Focus email us or drop into the office and have a chat with the SA staff about how to become involved.

This SURVIVAL GUIDE is our other major publication produced annually. In this book you’ll find public messages; information such as phone numbers, important dates and a college map; our business advertisements (that make this book possible); information about ACC and the Students’ Association and what we can all do to make your time here successful and memorable. And to avoid a nervous break-down, we’ve included a weekly planner to help keep your events and assignments organized. We sincerely hope you enjoy it and use it all year!

Games Room

The games room is a place where you can come to relax between classes. It’s equipped with 2 pool tables, a foosball table, arcade games, pinball machines, vending machines and a change machine. You can check the information boards for upcoming events, view the picture board from the latest ACCSA events, or just sit and read a copy of the latest Student Focus newsletter.

Faxing & Photocopying

Faxing and photocopying services are available in the ACCSA office (room 413). Costs are dependent on the number of pages/copies and destination of faxes. Ask the SA staff for rate details and for assistance with your faxing and photocopying requirements. The library also has a coin operated photocopier.

Class & Graduation Photos

The ACCSA has a contract with The Family Tree to visit the college a few times during the year to take graduation pictures and class pictures. The Association manages the class scheduling and distribution of all class pictures from the photographer.

Bulletin Boards

The ACCSA has several bulletin boards located around the college. Students are welcome to use these boards to advertise items like textbooks, cars, apartments etc. All documents must be approved and stamped by someone from the ACCSA office. Postings may stay up for a maximum of one month. There are two boards designated for community events, one by the cafeteria entrance and one in the crossroads lounge area.

Battery Booster, Appliances & Equipment Loans

The ACCSA has a battery booster to assist those that might find themselves in a jam when their car won’t start. If you have a weak battery or left your lights on, stop by the Security Desk to borrow the booster. It can be signed out with a valid driver’s license. Just remember to read the instructions and be careful!

Over the years the ACCSA has donated microwaves for use in the college in the cafeteria and Crossroads area. It’s just a small way we can help make someone’s day a bit nicer.

Working on a project and need to borrow office supplies? We have hole-punchers, scissors, staplers, makers, calculators, etc. that we don’t mind lending out for a few minutes. Just drop into the ACCSA Office and we’ll take care of you.
